My practice is primarily concerned with phenomena and occurrences that are present within the human condition. How humans work singularly and collectively fascinates me. I focus on areas that investigate the more troubling, unusual and dark side of human kind, I feel there are more issues, in particular those that are unfamiliar and difficult to represent or comprehend, to question and explore. My work manifests itself through installation-based experiences. These installations aim to enable the viewer to encounter the aspects of humanity chosen. Currently I have been exploring our human approach to death and dying and its representation. We have a complex and difficult relationship with death, particularly in the Western world, yet our media and arts are saturated with its depictions. The intention of my work is to investigate different approaches to create work that closely embodies how we experience and relate to mortality. |
